Deadtree then Audiobook Review: Breaking down the barrier to the Beyond

The Reality Dysfunction.

Written by Peter F. Hamilton.  Narrated by John Lee.

Absolutely immersing literature never mind that the deadtree version is thick as a Washington DC phone book.  The characters are developed and you feel what they feel.  The first breaking into the Beyond occurs because an Involuntary Transport (IVET) named Quinn Dexter conducts a Satanic ritual on a stage 1 colony planet called Lalonde.  The ritual doesn’t cause it so much as something else, something curious, something alien with enough energy to hold the door open to the insane souls scrambling through to possess living humans.

Read this then listened to it on audible.  Out standing.  Five by Five for storytelling, and delivery.

Deadtree Review: New Live for 80s Porn Star

Has been 80s porn star John Irish is on the verge of taking gigs just so he can afford to eat cat food. Taking a job where is is the creepy old dude getting enjoyed by Mindy Copperhead he finds out that that there is a planet of women who need him to provide genetic material. The fact that he got himself snipped as protection in his hay day doesn’t seem to be a factor.

The further he gets away from the one gravity of earth the less ancient he feels and some of his hormones are leading him to make interesting choices. Let’s just say that the planet that “lost” all their men to a conquering enemy…is a little bit shady as the unfolding plot will reveal.

I got this work in paperback form from the Author at Fort Collins Comicon. He saw me and of all his works he picked up this one. Not sure what that says about me. The writing and editing was very well done. The storyline is unique…except in several B soft porn movies. I’m giving this 4 out of 5 enjoyment points.

Scientists used nanites to make Ray an unstoppable killing machine for the controllers at Project Rising Spirit. The Geomancer helped him to shed the nanites and come back down to mortal. He reached his breaking point and exiled himself to become a handyman at a Colorado flea bag motel.

Now the nanites are on the lose infecting random people who start going on copy cat shooting sprees. Every new one Ray hears about drives him deeper into shame and depression until he finally accepts…he is still Bloodshot and he must clean this up.

Excellent pacing and artwork. I’m always amazed at the quality of Valiant publishing. Four out five for originality, artwork and quality.

Deadtree Book Review: What if the government wanted to force us to be better by implantation?

Dominant Species

Written by Ben L. Hughes

Humans, in our current state are frail, prone to diseases and for the most part free-thinking. Dr. Stone and his ego planned to improve on all that with the blessing of DARPA and the Joint Chiefs. Excellent setup for the down fall.

The story is a tale of survival in an environment where an active biological agent is seeking to enslave the human race. It is well told as characters develop, some get killed off, and the internal workings of clan leadership are explored. Every bit of this story is scientifically feasible.

I’m very happy with the quality of this book. Four out of five enjoyment units are thus awarded.
