Alien Honor: A Fenris Novel Book 1.
Written by Vaughn Heppner.
Narrated by Jeff Cummings.
Jasper considers himself to be Earth’s greatest telepath and he may be correct. Cyrus has barely managed to survive in the sub-level 40 slums for his formative years working his way up the hierarchy of the Latin Kings and battling with the Red Blades. His occasional flare of talent with telekinesis has attracted the attention of the Psych Force {A little close to JMS Psych Corps I think but then there are variance limits}. Jasper and the NKV find Cyrus and whisk him off to Crete for…betterment.
All specials have a Faraday cage knitted into their skulls to allow them to be controlled. Their keepers carry an on-off switch. All specials are valued for their ability to make star travel possible.
I believe the title of this work hinges around an arrangement that an alien species made with Jasper to free him from the inhibitor and the justified fear of Human society. The characters you consider good and bad from the beginning surprise you by the end.
The story line is good and I like the portrayal of fear driven rules for society but I sense there is a lot of borrowing going on. I see traces of Babylon 5 and Space Above and Beyond woven into this work. The narrator tried to accommodate voice ranging between characters but there was quite a bit of blending where one character would take on the voice and accent of another.
I’m giving this a two out of five entertainment stars. Some will enjoy this more than I, I guarantee that.
