No Worse Enemy (Book 2 in the Empires Corps series)
by Christopher G. Nuttall
This installment finds Col. Edward Stalker and his command, Stalker’s Stalkers, still isolated on the fringe world of Avalon helping to build a new society after the abrupt withdrawal of the Empire. The old council is gone, the new one incorporating some of the rebel faction is in place and bandits are steadily being stomped out by the newly minted Knights of Avalon. Just one more obstacle to over come. Avalon is a sitting duck from orbit because as of yet they have no warships.
Enter the pirates. “Yo, ho, yo, ho…” No rum really, but a lot of sex slaving, acquired and poorly maintained ships and a goal to form a new empire of pirates on the Rim backed by an as of now unknown power faction. Could be aliens, other corporations, “non-sanctioned” colonies, who knows? What’s important is the Empire’s marines have a task to complete that involves adaptation to overcome the odds stacked against them in this action packed sequel.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I give the story and narration five thumbs up!!
