By J.S.Turner
Dawn is the protagonist in this short but moving tale of fantasy. Abused and victimized by her husband Tucker she loses a baby. When she recovers a baby is left on her door which she takes responsibility for potentially healing from the depression of having lost the other. When Tucker gleans a hint that the child might be his from their phone conversation he sets off on a murderous rampage. Dawn and the baby Josiah transit into the realm between Heaven and Hell and the adventure begins with demons, angels, phoenix, a giant named Marlon, changelings and assorted others.
I don’t want to give away any more spoilers. The copy I read was a pdf that the author gifted me for a review. I’ve since bought the kindle, mobi, version and the formatting is much better. The editing was excellent and I enjoyed the story. Middle Haven and the Realm’s world building is reminiscent of C.S. Lewis work The Great Divorce. The varied personalities and the back stories of the other characters who dwell in the Realm bring depth. This one gets a five out of five from me.
