Jade is an Australian high school student in her late teen years. Her life is a routine existence in the remote town of Sandy Point where she and her Mom adjust to each others boundaries. She does have a passion and that is to use video to tell stories.
An incident occurs and she is reintroduced to spiritual creatures she interacted with as a child. Not quite the rabbit hole and I would say it is more fulfilling. The interdimensional world of Maldeva becomes her escape, her mission to tell their story and a key ingredient in healing her family which has suffered years of dysfunction due to a buried tragedy.
Jade and the Deva is a story that functions at many levels. It is a YA speculative fiction, a window into the similarities with the rest of the world that exist in the exotic land of Australia and a journey of growth or healing for several of the characters that enriches the reader. Don’t pass this one up.
