The author balances her story well, with sensual sex scenes and terrifying but convincingly muted screams of torture. A nice balance is made between army loyalty and the questioning of command. And the whole makes an interesting, very scary tale, filled with excitement, satisfying in its strong male and female leadership, and thought-provoking in its finale.

by Kim Carmichael

Therin is a facilitator. It seems the gods have taken a page out of total quality management in order to humble their operators and give humans a chance at free will. In this case a blossoming young woman named Lucy has yet to know sexual release and rapture. It is Therin, the artist formerly known as Cupid, who must teach her how to bring herself over the edge to fulfillment and to love a mate.
Eternity is quite and excellent piece of romantic love story with erotica as a flavor. Bringing mythos from the classics in order to “facilitate” a modern romance in which both are doing what they think they need to sacrifice in order to save the other.
Well written and I recommend it as a great read for adults who want more to their erotica than just descriptions of the physical acts and sensations, which are artfully described here.

Book Review: Excellent YA read.

The Traz
by Eileen Schuh

Katrina is an underage genius who has suffered loss. A crappy home-life which she occasionally found respite from in the company of her loving Grandparents who took it upon themselves to teach her wondrous things and armor the best weapon a human can possess, their brain.
On her own at puberty she lives with a motorcycle gang for a year, doing the bidding of the gang-leader who helps her to understand that she is worthwhile and deserving of respect.
This book is part of the Backtracker series and only the beginning. I expect great things of Katrina in the next books. The Traz is a suitable YA read probably from ages 14 and up as it covers topics related to drugs, alcohol (a drug), sex (the desires for not the act of) and violence (allusions, not explicit). I hope these aren’t viewed as spoilers because what I’m trying to say here is that parents of teenagers should not dissuade their kids from reading this book. I recommend this book.

Grimsley Hollow: The Chosen One
by Niclole Storey

I would like to begin this by setting the scene of the impact. My journey in literacy started with the Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Every fantasy I attempted to read since the early 80s had rung flat until I gave up on the genre entirely in the mid-80s. I have read quite a variety of literature in my life and have only now come back to sampling Fantasy. I picked a good time.

Gage is the protagonist in this work, an autistic boy of eleven trying to gain control over his ailment so that he might eventually have friends. Gage is actually quite powerful in some aspects, mainly his strength of character which he will need to control the magic that has chosen him. Some one who wants friends doesn’t nit-pick the little things about others.

The adventure starts in his Fort, involves witches, vampires, werewolves, pixies,…, an amazing plethora of well described mythical creatures. Reaching the end of this book I realized the most enchanting creature of all was Gage himself. His role in this book convinced me to buy the other two available when I have a monstrous TBR list and novels of my own to spin. Excellent. This is an awesome YA read and suitable for emerging readers of early years.

5 out of 5 stars to those who care about that sort of thing.

Book Review: Duck or helmet up. Whatever your flavor.

Claire’s world revolves around the Escort service. Now in any other context this might be the prelude to something inappropriate for young readers, but not in this one. Escort is a fleet of fighter space craft that provide security from pirates in the Interstellar shipping medium that is…Alternate. She used to Captain one of these Escort vessels until she executed policies laid down by the service and very wealthy people made it their mission to clip her wings financially.

Along with an interloper who is not what he appears to be she descends into a pit of depression to wrestle with some very serious mental health issues. She has lost the only thing she ever wanted.

This was a great short read and I will not spoil it for you. I consider this a beginning YA work not quite in the reach of emerging readers of a young age because of the subject matter though it is appropriate for thirteen and up. Adults will find it refreshing and addicting as many of the envisioned problems of a career in the space faring civilization of New Eire compare reasonably to present society.
I recommend this space opera YA read.

I can’t say that January 2013 has been my favourite month.  In general, it’s been just a little rough.  I had expected to leisurely edit and perfect my sci-fi/fantasy novel, Shadow People.  Instead it was a month of serious illness and other unexpected evils.  On the plus side though, I’ve made the most amazing new friends, and learned that most people in the world are most cool indeed.  I’ve found that friends of old are more than rocks.  I send much love to you guys.  I lost my beloved turkeys in a devastating way, and have only lately been able to look my three little survivor chickens in the eye.  But all in all, I think I’ll be just fine.
